UI/UX Design for UK-Based Pet Food Website

Project Description

We delivered a tailored UI/UX design for a UK-based pet food website, focusing on creating a seamless and enjoyable shopping experience for pet owners. The platform offers a wide range of pet food and related products, with a goal of providing convenience, quality information, and easy purchasing options for pet owners across the UK. Our design enhanced the user journey from product discovery to checkout, optimizing for mobile and desktop views. The platform not only provides product options but also valuable information like pet nutrition tips, feeding guides, and subscription plans for recurring deliveries.

Problem Statement

The existing pet food website had an outdated interface, cluttered design, and a lack of personalization, which led to a poor user experience. The primary challenges were:

  • Complex and disorganized navigation: Users struggled to find the right products or information quickly.
  • Poor mobile experience: The site was not fully optimized for mobile, leading to frustrated customers and potential loss of sales.
  • Lack of personalization: The website didn’t offer personalized recommendations or subscription options for frequent buyers, making the shopping experience feel generic.
  • Unclear product information: Detailed product specifications, benefits, and usage instructions were either missing or difficult to locate.

Solutions

We implemented a modern, clean, and easy-to-navigate UI that focused on simplicity and ease of use. Key solutions included:

  • Intuitive Navigation: We restructured the website’s navigation to ensure that users could easily browse product categories, find nutritional information, and discover related products.
  • Mobile-First Design: A fully responsive design ensured that users on all devices, especially mobile, would have an optimal shopping experience.
  • Personalized Product Recommendations: The design incorporated AI-powered suggestions based on user preferences and previous purchases.
  • Clear and Accessible Product Information: We ensured that each product had detailed, easy-to-find information on ingredients, benefits, and how to use it.
  • Subscription Options: Added a subscription model that allowed pet owners to automatically reorder pet food on a regular basis, making the process hassle-free.

Design Process

We followed the Design Thinking methodology to ensure that the website met the needs of the target audience while aligning with the business goals. The process included the following phases:

  1. Empathize:
We conducted user research by interviewing pet owners and reviewing customer feedback. This helped us understand the pain points of shopping for pet food online, including issues with navigation, lack of information, and mobile usability.
  2. Define:
Based on the research, we defined key objectives: improve mobile usability, streamline navigation, offer personalized experiences, and provide clear product details. We also defined the target personas—pet owners, busy professionals, and first-time pet parents.
  3. Ideate:
We brainstormed several design concepts and features that could address the pain points. We explored options such as a simplified product page layout, an easy-to-navigate product filter, and AI-powered product recommendations based on previous purchases.
  4. Design:
We created wireframes and high-fidelity mockups, focusing on a clean, easy-to-navigate layout with prominent product details. The design featured large, easy-to-read fonts and ample whitespace to improve readability. We also focused on intuitive user flows, especially for the mobile experience.
  5. Test:
After developing interactive prototypes, we conducted usability testing with real users. Feedback was gathered, especially on mobile usability and ease of finding detailed product information. Based on the results, we iterated on the design to fix issues and further optimize user interactions.

User Personas

  • Busy Professionals: Individuals who want a quick and efficient shopping experience, as well as the option for subscription-based deliveries to avoid the hassle of frequent orders.
  • First-Time Pet Parents: New pet owners who need guidance on selecting the right products and understanding their pet’s dietary needs. They require educational content, detailed product descriptions, and feeding guides.
