Project Description

We developed a healthcare technology platform aimed at connecting individuals with essential wellness services, lab testing, and care management resources. The platform supports population health management and facilitates biometric screening events, enabling healthcare providers to close care gaps. By leveraging a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, the platform makes wellness services and lab testing accessible, scalable, and efficient, catering to the needs of both individuals and healthcare providers. Our active involvement in the QA/testing phase ensures the accuracy and reliability of patient data, lab test results, and file verifications.

Technical Architecture & Implementation

  • Frontend: Built using React.js and Redux, providing a dynamic and responsive interface for users to interact with health and wellness data.

  • Backend: Powered by Node.js and Express, the backend handles the logic for patient data validation, lab test result processing, and managing biometric screenings.

  • Database: PostgreSQL is used for structured data storage, including patient records, lab test results, and wellness event data. The database is optimized for fast querying and secure data handling.

  • Data Integration: The platform integrates with external lab systems using HL7 and FEE file formats to validate and transfer test results, ensuring accurate data transmission.

  • Data Validation & Verification: Custom verification tools were built to ensure the accuracy of patient data and lab results, including automated verification for HL7 and FEE file formats.

  • Cloud Infrastructure: Hosted on AWS, the platform leverages EC2 for compute, S3 for data storage, and Lambda for scalable event-driven processing.

  • Security: We implemented strict security protocols, including encryption for sensitive health data, OAuth 2.0 for user authentication, and role-based access control (RBAC) for data protection and compliance.

Technical Challenges & Solutions

  • Challenge: Ensuring accurate patient data and lab result verification across multiple data sources.
    Solution: We implemented automated verification tools that integrate directly with HL7 and FEE file formats to cross-check lab results and ensure that all patient data is validated in real-time before being added to the platform.

  • Challenge: Handling large volumes of health data while maintaining performance and security.
    Solution: The platform uses a microservices architecture to separate data validation, event management, and patient data processing, ensuring scalability and efficient performance under load. AWS S3 was used for secure and scalable storage of large datasets.

  • Challenge: Ensuring data accuracy and security while complying with regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA).
    Solution: We implemented end-to-end encryption for data transmission, and RBAC to ensure compliance with HIPAA and other healthcare regulations, safeguarding patient privacy and ensuring data integrity.

  • Challenge: Integrating disparate health data systems to ensure smooth data flow.
    Solution: We built robust API integrations for connecting the platform with external lab systems, ensuring real-time data sync for accurate lab results, and validation using industry-standard HL7 and FEE files.
